Classification and application of carbon paste products

  Carbon paste products can be divided into two categories, one is conductive materials (such as electrode paste and anode paste); One is the bonding filler used for masonry carbon (such as bottom paste, coarse joint paste and fine joint paste).

  (1) Electrode paste

  Electrode paste is an important consumable conductive material for the production of calcium carbide and ferroalloy. In terms of its use nature, it is a “self baking electrode”. At present, the thermoelectric furnace consumes about 45kg of electrode paste per 1t of ferrosilicon containing 75% Si, and about 30kg of electricity per 1t of calcium carbide. The main raw materials for producing electrode paste are anthracite, metallurgical coke and coal tar pitch, which can be divided into two categories according to different formulas:

  1) Standard and non-standard electrode paste (code THD): standard electrode paste is mainly used in open ferroalloy furnaces and small and medium-sized calcium carbide furnaces, and medium temperature asphalt is used as binder; Non standard electrode paste is mainly used in large open calcium carbide furnace. Its dry material particle composition is the same as that of standard sandalwood electrode paste. However, in order to appropriately improve the sintering speed of electrode paste, a small amount of coal tar is added to medium temperature asphalt as binder.

  2) Closed paste (code THM): this kind of electric fuzzing is applicable to closed ferroalloy furnaces, calcium carbide furnaces and other metallurgical furnaces. Anthracite is used as the main ingredient of the sealed paste. In order to improve the sintering performance of the electrode paste, a small amount of graphite chips and petroleum coke need to be added, and the binder with low softening point should be used.

  (2) Anode paste

  Anode paste (code thy) is used as anode conductive and electrical materials in aluminum reduction cells. It also participates in the oxidation-reduction reaction in the cells. Each production of LT electrolytic aluminum consumes about 600kg of anode paste. The production of anode paste is made of petroleum coke, asphalt coke and other low ash raw materials.
